Feature Video

Interview of Ryan Parker. Make sure to check out more of his work here.

Respire: Favorite Cinematographer (or anyone related in the movie business)?:
A: Roger Deakins. His work on all of the Coen Brothers movies is immaculate. My two favourite directors are Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, anyone?) and Darren Aronofsky.

Respire:When did you begin shooting videos and how did you get interested in?
A: I began when I was first allowed to rent out a video camera in my high school film class. The first video I shot was a (terrible) music video back in 10th grade. I have since wiped all traces of that video from the internet.

Respire: How do you come up with concepts for your shorts?
A: All of my short film ideas come from locking myself in my room with a pen and paper. I can’t concentrate unless I’m alone with no noises. It let’s my mind wander. When my wrist hurts from writing, I excitedly type away in one giant paragraph.

Respire: What would you think is your biggest accomplishment with making videos?
A: I’ve won a couple awards at a student film festival. They actually created a new category after watching the short film I submitted. Other than that, I’m most proud of the fact that the band Starfucker has posted my video for their song Hungry Ghost all over the place and sent it out with a press release.

Respire: Would you like to soon pursue in making movies/music videos professionally and if so how?
A: I’m going to be in film school for the next 3 years which will most likely delay how fast I can truly start. I’ve always wanted to film a mini-documentary of a band on tour, so hopefully I can start off with that.

Respire: How important do you think it is to capture people/ideas in motion?
A: I think it’s extremely important. Film is a form of expression and communication. Especially for me, I’m always filming wherever I go. For instance, this summer, anytime I did anything remotely special, I had my camera recording. I love to capture life.
